Sunday morning stroll.
I decided to explore the Britford stretch a bit more this weekend, it was a glorious Sunday morning, I had 2 pints of maggots, a rod and reel, a small rucksack with coffee, biscuits and a stool in it, and some size 16 hooks and a 20g feeder. The day started early as the somebody was moving at 5 am, so I was awake, and by 6-15 I was in the carpark ready to walk the rivers and see what was on offer.
I walked all the way down the main carrier to the trout farm, then turned back up the old river and walked all the way to the top sluice house, then returned to the carpark, this was about a 8 mile walk, I did interrupt my walk with numerous fishing stops, the idea was to explore swims not to catch anything special.
The first stop saw me spend about 20 minutes just having a cast around, I did get a little take
A Salmon Parr
I soon moved on a bit and picked up some small trout and one of a decent size
This was 2lb 7oz, just an ounce less than my PB.
The next few stops saw me picking up small perch and chublets, until I came to this swim
here I got a cracking take and soon had a lovely perch on the bank
this was just over the 2lb mark, and a lovely condition fish, you do not get perch like that every day.
I continued walking and picked up some dace and more chublets
I also picked up the obligatory minnow, but not the plague of them I have had before.
The fishing was varied and fun, six different species in a day, I was not spending long in each swim as I wanted to explore, so I did not have time to build up a swim and get the better fish feeding, this may also have stopped the real small stuff homing in on the bait too.
So now I have seen a good portion of the water around Britford and found some interesting swims to explore in the autumn, I am also shattered from all that walking!!
